Kotohikihama Beach is famous for its singing sand. When one walks on the sand, it makes a squeaking sound. The beach is made up of quartz sand, and is about 1.8 km long. The cultural center of singing sand near here displays materials on Kotohikihama beach.
Local people provide voluntary cleaning services to keep it in good condition. It is designated as a national natural monument and a place of scenic beauty, as well as one of the 100 best beaches in Japan and 100 beaches with white sand and green pines.
