Kinosaki Hot Springs have developed since the Heian Period (about 1300 years ago). This tasteful resort was also loved by many writers and artists from the Edo Period onward. Many visitors come to Kinosaki for sotoyu-meguri (visiting seven public baths).Filled with a very Japanese atmosphere, replete with picturesque scenes of people in yukata (informal summer kimono), this quiet town is loved by many. Visitors can get a feel for the area’s history, literature and art in some facilities nearby.
During the reconstruction after the North Tajima Earthquake in 1925, great efforts were made to build a disaster-resistant city.The protective bank of the Otani River using black basalts from Genbudo Cave provides Kinosaki with its unique atmosphere.
